Early 2011 rankings- Relievers

Posted: January 6, 2011 in Fantasy Baseball

This is the most unpredictable category in fantasy baseball. Half of the “closers” will lose their jobs by the All-Star break, and someone whose name we don’t know will rise to stardom. But here is the best guess right now.

1. Mariano Rivera
2. Joakim Soria
3. Brian Wilson
4. Heath Bell
5. Neftali Feliz
6. Andrew Bailey
7. Huston Street
8. Jonathan Broxton
9. Jonathan Papelbon
10. Jose Valverde
11. Carlos Marmol
12. Joe Nathan
13. Francisco Rodriguez
14. Rafael Soriano
15. Brad Lidge
16. Ryan Franklin
17. Chris Perez
18. Francisco Cordero
19. JJ Putz
20. John Axford
21. Aroldis Chapman

I think Chapman gets a shot at the Reds closer job by the end of the summer. I also see no reason Joe Nathan doesn’t return to his elite closer self this year, after an injury lost his 2010 season. Rafael Soriano doesn’t have a job yet, so be wary of ranking him too high until we see where he lands.
