Rankings Update: Third Base

Posted: March 9, 2011 in Fantasy Baseball

Third base is similar to second in the way that there are very few elites, but there is a middle group that can be had for value, and turn into very nice producers. If you don’t get one of the top two, be patient.

1. Evan Longoria
2. David Wright
3. Ryan Zimmerman
4. Alex Rodriguez
5. Aramis Ramirez
6. Pablo Sandoval
7. Jose Bautista
8. Casey McGehee
9. Pedro Alvarez
10. Martin Prado
11. Michael Young
12. Ian Stewart
13. Adrian Beltre
14. Mark Reynolds
15. Chase Headley
16. Edwin Encarnacion
17. Placido Polanco
18. David Freese
19. Chris Johnson
20. Jose Lopez
21. Scott Rolen
22. Omar Infante
23. Juan Uribe
24. Miguel Tejada
25. Ty Wigginton
26. Jhonny Peralta
27. Danny Valencia
28. Brent Morel
29. Chipper Jones
30. Brandon Wood

I know, I know. Wood? Really? How can you? I know! I’m giving him one more year to translate the amazing power to the majors. In eight minor league seasons, Wood hit 161 home runs in 764 minor league games. That’s a home run in 21% of games played. In comparison, David Wright has 169 home runs in 1004 games (16.8%). Paul Konerko has hit 365 home runs in 1849 games (19.7%).

Meanwhile, if you can’t get Wright, Longoria, or Zimmerman, get one out of McGehee, Alvarez, Sandoval, Ramirez, Prado and Stewart and you should be covered.
