Hype Kills

Gio Gonzalez is the most recent victim of the hype monster. He was going undrafted, or at the end of many drafts until last week. ESPN raved about him several times in a matter of days, and I just saw him go before Wandy Rodriguez in a 14-team mixed draft.

He was going for $1 in auctions, but in my 12-team auction yesterday, he went for $8.

Don’t chase the hype. Also, don’t chase spring numbers. Alex Rodriguez is having an awesome spring, bringing back memories of the good ole days. Rodriguez is now being taken ahead of Ryan Zimmerman in many drafts, and that’s all hype.

Don’t be the guy to reach for spring numbers. They don’t count. Trust your rankings. Draft accordingly.
