Snakes and Ladders

Posted: April 28, 2011 in Fantasy Baseball

As always on Wednesdays, I cover some guys who are rising and falling in my rankings. And by the way, new positional rankings should be up before the end of this week, so keep an eye out for that.

SNAKE- Francisco Liriano… as of this writing, he has given up four runs without getting an out in the first inning of his start tonight… I would never tell you to sell low. But if you can get 90 cents on the dollar, I wouldn’t blame you. However, note his original start was Saturday, he got bumped back to Tuesday, and then rain delayed, so he is going off of way too much rest.

LADDER- Travis Hafner might be for real. No, he won’t hit over .340 for the season, but if he stays healthy, he could be over .280 with 20 or more home runs. The power is there.

SNAKE- Jordan Zimmerman had another bad start. He is not walking people, but also not striking people out often enough to capitalize on the talent.

LADDER- Brett Anderson looks good! There will always be health questions, but as long as he is healthy, he is a top-20 starting pitcher.

SNAKE- Freddie Freeman will probably be up and down all year. He is two for his last 18 right now.

LADDER- Ike Davis is very quietly batting .338 with four homers and 18 RBI.

SNAKE- Phil Hughes doesn’t know where the “dead feeling” in his arm is coming from, and neither do doctors. He tried to throw a bullpen session and had to cut it short.

LADDER- Bartolo Colon is shutting down the White Sox tonight, and with Hughes ailing, he looks like he’ll get a few starts at least.

SNAKE- Derek Jeter has an incredible ground ball rate, and is looking more like his 2010 self than 2009 when he hit well over .300.

LADDER- Sergio Santos has recorded two saves since taking over the ninth inning job in Chicago.

SNAKE- Matt Thornton came in to start the ninth inning in a save situation, gave up a sacrifice and a hit and was out of there.

LADDER- Cameron Maybin might the only Padre producing on a regular basis. His average isn’t great, but the power and speed are showing themselves.

SNAKE- Casey Blake looks like he will miss four weeks with an infection in his elbow.

LADDER- Daisuke Matzusaka has put together a couple impressive starts in a row. There is some strikeouts potential there, and some wins with the high-powered offense behind him.

SNAKE- Nick Markakis is down to .207 with two home runs. He is more name-power than bat-power right now.

LADDER- Drew Stubbs is up to four home runs and eight stolen bases. His batting average won’t help you, but he is a legitimate 30/30 threat this season, and should score 100 runs.

That’s it for now. Keep an eye out for new rankings coming soon.
