Snakes and Ladders

Posted: May 5, 2011 in Fantasy Baseball

Another week and another week’s worth of knowledge to judge value on.

LADDER- Francisco Liriano threw a no-hitter. It wasn’t pretty but it was a sign of him trending in the right direction. He’s too talented to bench if you own him, which was my argument for starting him to this point.

SNAKE- Phil Hughes will be out for at least another 6-8 weeks even though doctors said there is no blood flow issue.

LADDER- Brian Matusz will begin a rehab assignment on Saturday. Buy low while you can.

SNAKE- Nelson Cruz might be headed to the DL. Owners knew it was only a matter of time. But he is still being examined and might avoid it.

LADDER- Ike Davis hasn’t necessarily had a huge jump this past week, but I feel like people haven’t noticed he came into today batting .314 with six homers, 22 RBI, and 17 R.

SNAKE- Third basemen. David Freese, Pablo Sandoval, Ryan Zimmerman, Scott Rolen, Casey Blake… third basemen are on the DL. And Evan Longoria just got off.

LADDER- Ian Stewart got called up after raking in Triple-A. He is starting tonight for Colorado.

SNAKE- Travis Snider was sent down to the minors. The young power hitter was struggling to make contact, and when Rajai Davis got healthy, it was obvious he was the odd man out.

LADDER- Justin Smoak has quietly raised his average to .296 with four homers.

SNAKE- Delmon Young was hitting .228 when he went on the disabled list. While he looks to be activated in the next week, he has to turn things around or he won’t come close to 2010’s breakout numbers of .298 and 25 HR.

LADDER- Rajai Davis has six stolen bases in the five games since his return from the DL. Considering how often the Blue Jays are running now adays, Davis seems like a safe bet for 40+ swipes and could push 100 runs scored.

SNAKE- Freddie Freeman has five hits in his last 39 at bats after getting people excited with a short lived hot streak.

That’s all for now. Remember, tomorrow is Q&A so get any last second questions in while you can.

  1. ladders says:

Interesting – not quite sure about the snakes and ladders analogy though.

  2. I’m glad I hung on to Rajai Davis. I almost dropped him, then didn’t because of his steals. I’m happy he’s healthy and producing.
