Josh Johnson on DL with shoulder inflammation

What keeps Josh Johnson was being a top-5 SP in pre-season rankings?

The Marlins have placed their ace on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation. He is almost sure to need more than the 15 day minimum to get back, as the Florida doctors are sure to be extra careful because of his history. We don’t know much about the severity of the injury, but his velocity was down during his last start.

Considering the early reports, I’d expect a timetable of either 3-5 weeks or 4-6 weeks. And I’d expect him to miss close to a month. But that’s a very early estimate.

  1. Terrible loss. Johnson has been better than almost any pitcher this year. This one will hurt teams a ton.
