Perhaps you remember early this season, and once last season, I mentioned a young (currently 20 year old) outfielder named Anthony Gose. He was traded to the Blue Jays for Brett Wallace in the offseason. Drafted by the Phillies in 2008, his OPS has gone up every season since. At 18 years old, in A-Ball, he stole 76 bases. In 85 games this season, he has 41 steals.
There is talk of him seeing a September call-up. Whether that happens or not, Gose is a Gold Glove caliber center fielder already, with a cannon arm. And he has the tools to be at the top of the Blue Jays lineup for the next decade. He has nine home runs so far, so there is developing pop. It seems unlikely Gose ever hits more than 15 home runs at the major league level, but that’s plenty useful when combined with 50 steals and 90+ runs scored.
